The Spastics Society of Sikkim, formed in July 1997, for the welfare of people with multiple disability and mental retardation caused by Cerebral Palsy, has three-pronged programme in its objectives, namely

Immediate relief, early intervention, appropriate therapy, special education and rehabilitation through SCRC (Day Care Centre) at Development Area working since 1993.

Up-gradation of the Day Care Centre by training dedicated social workers in different aspects of management of Cerebral Palsy and establishment of training and rehabilitation centre in the state with respite care and residential home facilities. Such a centre will serve as referral centre and provide special education, vocational training and rehabilitation institute for the state. It will generate master trainers to meet the requirement at thecommunity level supplemented by Community Based Rehabilitation.

To train personal from relevant Government and Non- Government agencies and create awareness on rights of the people with disability and duties of the general public about the Sikkim People With Disability Rules 2001, and the PWD Act 1995,(protection of the rights, equal opportunities and full participation).
