Pisciculture is an important area of economic activity particularly in the context of enabling the rural people to derive incremental incomes and to improve their living standards. The state’s natural resources endowment with an extensive network of freshwater rivers, lakes, and streams offers condition which are conducive for development of inland fisheries where a variety of carps and trouts can thrive.
The table above shows that Gangtok subdivision accounts for the highest number of population involved in fisheries & allied activities. Gangtok is followed by Rabongla subdivision in the South District. Chungthang has the lowest number of population involved in the activity
