Integrated Development Of Small And Medium Towns:

The Integrated Development Of Small And Medium Towns is a centrally sponsored scheme in the ratio of 60:40. As per the revised guidelines 1995 the funding pattern for category A town is 48:32:20 where 48 is central grant, 32 is the state share and 20 is the loan component from financial institutions. In Sikkim all the towns fall under the category A towns, as the population is less than one lakh. The scheme is being implemented for development of important markets by way of creating assets to enhance the economic activity in the area.
	Construction of Shopping Comples at Singtam
The department has already obtained the draft strategy paper for the various towns to be developed on priority. Towns that are identified for development can be brought under this scheme. As the strategy paper has already been accepted by the govt., the scheme can be extended to all the towns .The main towns covered since the inception of the scheme in the state are mainly Gangtok, Namchi, and Jorethang. The construction of shopping complex at Singtam is in progress and 60%of the work has been completed. The approval of the four schemes for construction of shopping complex at Pakyong, Jorethang phase II, Gyalshing and Soreng has already been obtained from the Town and Country Planning, Ministry of Urban development Government of India. The projects are being formulated to cover the other towns in the future.
